Blues Studies

Blues lines run the gamut from laid back one-note “lumps” to demanding non-stop shuffles that require a seasoned fingerboard grip and every string available. Using these studies to work toward the stamina and skill necessary to drive a blues band is just what the doctor ordered. The studies are about the lines themselves. The “Workouts” are recorded so that you can play along note-for-note with Kevin to help develop the grip and stamina necessary to play these classic lines at a professional level.

Learning Objectives

Develop knowledge of many classic blues bass lines.

Play blues lines with ease and stamina for long periods.

Communicate effectively with the rhythm section through the use of dynamics.

Create variations of these classic blues lines for artistic purposes.

Difficulty Level

Many classic blues lines can be learned by all levels, but to play them with conviction for five or even ten minutes non-stop is the job of a professional player. All bassists will find these studies helpful, but the special attention that is paid to the use of dynamics and articulation are intermediate to professional-level topics.
